Addressing Volume Loss With Fillers

Volume loss is a natural part of aging, but it doesn’t have to define your look. Dermal fillers are a subtle, yet effective, way to enhance your natural beauty and boost your confidence.

Achieving natural-looking results is our focus at Saluja Cosmetic and Laser Center, serving the Charlotte, North Carolina, area. Board Certified ophthalmologist and Fellowship-trained in cosmetic dermatology, Raminder Saluja, MD, offers a range of filler options — including Juvederm Ultra, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus and Restylane Lyft, Restylane Contour, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Kysse and Radiesse® — to refresh your appearance and address volume loss, sagging skin, and other signs of aging.

Dermal fillers are increasingly in demand, with over 5 million procedures performed annually in the United States. Here, discover why they’re so popular and what to expect during treatment.

Understanding volume loss

Wrinkles aren’t the only thing that impact your appearance as you get older. A key sign of aging is volume loss — a gradual decrease in facial fullness.

Your face is supported by a network of collagen, elastin, and fat beneath the skin’s surface. However, the body naturally produces less collagen and elastin over time, and the skin loses some of its structure and elasticity.

At the same time, the fat pockets in your face, which contribute to volume and contour, begin to shrink and move lower as the ligaments holding the fat also begin to stretch. You may notice your cheeks look flatter, your jawline is less defined, or there’s hollowing under your eyes.

As its underlying support diminishes, skin can begin to sag and fold, making wrinkles appear more pronounced or even creating new ones. Hands, too, can lose volume and appear aged.

How do fillers restore lost volume?

Fillers offer a nonsurgical solution to these concerns, and hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers are among the most popular and versatile options available.

Your body naturally produces HA — which helps maintain skin’s moisture, volume, and elasticity — but production declines with age. The HA in dermal fillers is a synthetic version of this natural substance, carefully formulated to be safe and biocompatible.

HA fillers act like a sponge, drawing in moisture and creating a subtle volumizing effect. This helps to restore lost fullness in areas including the cheeks, temples, and under-eye hollows. Dr. Saluja also uses fillers to enhance and define your lips, creating a more balanced appearance.

The options are virtually endless when it comes to dermal fillers, which allows Dr. Saluja to customize your treatment. Thicker, denser HA fillers are ideal for adding structure and volume to the cheeks, jawline, or nasolabial folds, while thinner fillers are better suited for smoothing fine lines and treating delicate areas like under the eyes.

When we layer them together, these different formulations can address both deep volume loss and surface-level imperfections for a more comprehensive and natural-looking rejuvenation. HA fillers can also stimulate collagen production, leading to longer-lasting results.

What to expect during your filler treatment

While everyone’s experience is unique, it’s not typically painful. We may apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort during the filler injections.

Some minor swelling or bruising after your procedure is possible, but it should subside quickly. No significant downtime is necessary — many patients even schedule filler appointments during their lunch break and return to work immediately afterward.

The rejuvenating effects of the treatment often become apparent right away, with optimal results developing over the next few days. These improvements can last for six months to a year — and even longer in some cases. Periodic touch-ups help sustain your results and ensure a consistently refreshed, youthful appearance.

You should love the way you look, and we can help. If you’re considering fillers, schedule a consultation at Saluja Cosmetic and Laser Center in Huntersville, North Carolina, and discover the possibilities.

Immediately post filler

RHA Filler and Restylane Expression (XpresHAn) Technology

As filler companies continue to gain information on what patients want and what characteristics a filler should have, newer, purer fillers are coming to the market. One such filler is RHA (resilient hyaluronic acid) which mimics facial movement.
Immediately Post PDO Threadlift Neck

PDO Threadlift

What is a PDO threadlift? PDO threads can either be lifting threads or smooth threads. Lifting threads help to reposition the fat pads and lift up on the cheek area and jowl area. They are not a facelift but can lift greater than filler alone.
